This text is intended for intermediate level students who have taken general biology and chemistry and some organic chemistry. Broad coverage and lucid writing enhance the presentation which is supported with four-color design. The text provides an overview of important topics of interest and shows how the remarkable recent advances in biochemistry have influenced other scientists. The order of topic presentation may be freely altered to meet varying teaching needs. Approximately 20% of the text is new or rewritten with new material on HPLC, reactions of diazonium salts, using NM to solve a structure proof problem and preparation of C-4 and C-5 acetate esters.
