Greenwood Press

Harold Mason and Harold Schwartz founded Greenwood Press, Inc., in 1967, with an initial focus on reprinting out-of-print works, particularly titles listed in the American Library Association’s first edition of Books for College Libraries (1967). In 1986, Greenwood Press, Inc. (now Greenwood Publishing Group) purchased Praeger Publishers. The company continued to evolve and experienced several ownership changes over the next 20 years. In 2008, Houghton Mifflin Harcourt granted ABC-CLIO a perpetual license, taking the name of Greenwood Press.

For more than half a century, scholars, educators, and students around the world have relied on the authoritative books published by ABC-CLIO and Greenwood that aim to improve the research experience by providing comprehensive content with direct relevance from resources that enhance critical thinking.

ABC-CLIO/Greenwood publishes more than 100 titles each year with the goal of improving research and understanding by making reference content more engaging and accessible. The company strives to provide content with direct relevance to researchers.
