Negotiable Instruments & Payment Systems covers Articles 3 and 4 of the Uniform Commercial Code, including the 1991 revisions. The coverage of Article 3 concentrates on negotiability, holder in due course, and the liabilities of various parties to instruments (including forged or altered ones). Article 4 relates to bank deposits and collections, with special treatment of electronic funds transfers, credit cards, and letters of credit. Professor Gillette extensively revised this outline in 1995. Important Note: The name of this book was changed from Commerical Paper to Negotiable Instruments & Payment Systems in spring 1997. The text of the book is identical to the former Commercial Paper outline. The name change reflects a shift in terminology away from the term "Commercial Paper" in law schools. Author Clayton P. Gillette is the Pierce Bowen Professor of Law at the University of Virginia Law School. He has taught and written on the subject of Commercial Law since 1978.
